Substance Use Treatment

Home Substance Use Disorder Treatment

According to a 2017 study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 7% of young adults ages 18-25 in Kentucky reported using illicit substances within the year. Since then, they repeated their study in 2019 and found the number had decreased to 4.7%.

One of the ways we are able to lower that number is by making sure there are open and effective treatment centers available. SUN Behavioral Health is located in northeastern Kentucky, just south of Cincinnati. We offer paths to substance abuse recovery.

Our Adult Outpatient Behavioral Mental Health Services

Our outpatient clinic includes two important services, a partial hospitalization program and intensive outpatient program. This allows us to provide unique options for counseling services that are individualized for each patient’s mental and behavioral health needs.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

PHP cares for patients who may be transitioning from inpatient care. It is also a suitable fit for more intensive treatment which can prevent the need for hospitalization. In our PHP program:

Patients attend group therapy five days per week.

Groups focus on:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Coping Skills Training
  • WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan), an evidence-based system to help people understand wellness techniques for relapse prevention. Our team of psychiatrists provides comprehensive medication oversight management
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – IOP is for anyone who may be stepping down from PHP, but needs the support and structure of treatment. It is suitable for those who may need more intensive treatment than that offered in outpatient care.

Patients attend five group sessions per week.

Sessions include a daily process group (to work through current issues), cognitive therapy, and the daily wellness relapse prevention (WRAP) group

Who Does Outpatient Behavioral Health Treat?

Outpatient service is one of many forms of treatment available for mood disorders, like anxiety disorders and depression. Outpatient treatment provides patients with evidence-based treatment that helps them identify the most pressing issues. It also provides alternatives to heading to the emergency department when in a crisis.

At SUN Behavioral in Erlanger, Kentucky, we have found adults benefit most from our intensive outpatient services. At the time of intake, patients are assessed through a personalized course of action. It helps our specialists exceed his or her needs within this level of care.

What Support to Expect From An Outpatient Mental Health Care Center

Outpatient treatment is different from psychiatric, depression or anxiety treatment. This type of care usually does not require patients to stay at the facility while being treated. When visiting the facility, patients spend time in customized sessions over the course of a day. This can be beneficial for full time employees seeking treatment, because it allows patients to continue to maintain a life outside of treatment.

Key components of intensive outpatient treatment at SUN Behavioral include:

  • Psychiatrists and nurse practitioners
  • Group psychotherapy
  • Stress management and life skills development
  • Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Yoga and physical wellness strategies
  • Treatment in a trauma-informed environment with trauma-informed staff
  • Aftercare planning for continued recovery
  • Support groups (including 12-step groups)
