Mental Health and Substance Use in the Older Adult

Older Adult Specialist at The Council on Recovery
Sheila Wainwright is an Older Adult Specialist at The Council on Recovery. Sheila works in The Wellderly Program, which is a free prevention and intervention program dedicated to educating adults, age 60 and older, their family members and service providers about risky substance use, misuse as well as providing brief interventions when indicated.
Sheila is a graduate of The University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. Sheila has interned with agencies that specifically meet the needs of older adults such as Adult Protective Services, Care for Elders, and The Houston Housing Authority Senior Housing. Sheila’s passion is to educate, older adults about risky substance behaviors, provide supportive counseling and intensive case management so that older adults can age in place in their homes and community.
