Reclaiming your sense of self
Dealing with substance abuse and addiction is never easy. It’s even more difficult when you’re also struggling with mental health issues.
This combination is known as a co-occurring disorder and it can be overwhelming. There is hope, and you are not alone. SUN offers a variety of treatments and programs to help you reclaim your sense of self, set you on a path to recovery and get your life back on track.
A Path to Recovery
As one of the country’s most comprehensive behavioral health organizations, SUN works to make life better and create positive outcomes for anyone dealing with the crippling combination of substance abuse and mental health issues. It’s a common problem — roughly 50 percent of individuals with severe mental disorders are affected by substance abuse. We’re here to help, and our board-certified psychiatrists and master’s level therapists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help uncover and resolve the complex emotional issues at the heart of these disorders.
SUN combines an experienced and knowledgeable staff with industry-leading best practices to give every patient a path to recovery and wellness. Nearly 37 percent of alcohol abusers and 53 percent of substance abusers also have at least one serious mental illness. We recognize that addiction is a chronic neurological disorder and there are many paths to wellness. Our program is designed to help patients experiencing any of the following:
- Substance use disorders
- Self-harm or thoughts of self-harm
- Depression, hopelessness
- Mood instability
- Anxiety, persistent worry, panic attacks
- Auditory or visual hallucinations or delusional thinking
Our program uses evidence-based treatment, including everything from motivational interviewing, mindfulness and the development of a support system to psychopharmacology and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Our trauma care approach uses the principles of safety, empowerment, trustworthiness, collaboration and choice. The SUN team guides each patient through the process and provides the tools necessary for recovery. The goal is to promote abstinence and empower patients to improve their sense of satisfaction and be the experts in their own healing. SUN’s comprehensive treatment features include:
